Consumers are encouraged to consult with their physician, pharmacist, or qualified healthcare provider regarding cannabis use and any potential health concerns.
LEGAL RIGHTS & RESTRICTIONS
With evolving cannabis laws and regulations, it is important for customers to understand the legal rights and limitations associated with cannabis possession, purchase, and consumption in Illinois.
Illinois Possession Limits
Pursuant to the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, adult-use cannabis possession limits differ for Illinois residents and out-of-state visitors.
Illinois residents may purchase:
Up to 60 grams of cannabis flower;
Up to 10 grams of cannabis concentrate; and
Up to 1000 milligrams of THC contained in cannabis-infused products.
Out-of-state visitors may purchase:
Up to 30 grams of cannabis flower;
Up to 5 grams of cannabis concentrate; and
Up to 500 milligrams of THC contained in cannabis-infused products.
These limits are cumulative and strictly enforced. Lakeshore Cannabis Club staff and point-of-sale systems are designed to help ensure customers remain within applicable legal purchase limits.
Federal Law
Although cannabis is legal for adult use under Illinois law, cannabis remains illegal under federal law. Customers should understand that cannabis may not be transported across state lines or possessed on federally controlled property, including airports, federal buildings, and national parks. Cannabis is also prohibited at schools and universities subject to federal drug-free campus regulations.
Public Consumption
Illinois law prohibits the consumption of cannabis in public places and inside motor vehicles. Cannabis should only be consumed in legally permitted private settings. Driving under the influence of cannabis or operating heavy machinery while impaired is illegal and dangerous.
HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH CANNABIS
Cannabis affects individuals differently depending on factors such as dosage, potency, frequency of use, tolerance, body chemistry, and method of consumption. Research regarding long-term cannabis use continues to evolve, and consumers should understand that cannabis may carry health risks.
Heart Health
Cannabis consumption may increase heart rate and could contribute to cardiovascular risks in certain individuals. Smoking cannabis may also expose consumers to substances similar to those found in tobacco smoke.
Lung Health
Smoking cannabis may irritate lung tissue and contribute to coughing, bronchitis, or respiratory discomfort. Alternative consumption methods may reduce some inhalation-related risks.
Mental Health
Frequent or high-potency cannabis use may contribute to anxiety, paranoia, temporary psychosis, or worsening symptoms in individuals predisposed to certain mental health conditions.
Brain Development
Cannabis may affect memory, attention, learning, coordination, and decision-making. Developing brains, particularly in adolescents and young adults, may be more susceptible to these effects.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Cannabis use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended. Research suggests cannabis exposure during pregnancy may affect fetal development and may contribute to developmental or behavioral concerns in children.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Potential short-term side effects of cannabis consumption may include:
altered perception;
impaired coordination;
difficulty concentrating;
impaired memory;
increased heart rate;
anxiety or paranoia;
dizziness or drowsiness.
High doses, particularly from edibles or concentrates, may increase the likelihood of uncomfortable side effects or adverse reactions.
Long-term or excessive use may contribute to respiratory issues, dependence patterns, mood changes, reduced motivation, or cognitive impairment in some individuals.
RESPONSIBLE CANNABIS USE
Responsible cannabis consumption includes understanding personal tolerance levels, consuming in safe environments, and avoiding impaired driving or unsafe behavior.
Lakeshore Cannabis Club encourages customers to:
consume responsibly;
avoid operating vehicles while impaired;
respect the rights and preferences of others;
store cannabis securely;
start with low doses and increase gradually if needed.
Each individual reacts differently to cannabis, and effects may vary significantly between products and consumption methods.
SAFE STORAGE
Cannabis products should always be stored securely and out of reach of children and pets.
For best product quality and safety:
store cannabis in airtight containers;
keep products in cool, dark, dry environments;
avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat;
use lockable storage when possible.
Proper labeling and organization can also help prevent accidental misuse or overconsumption.
CANNABIS ADMINISTRATION METHODS & EFFECTS
Different methods of cannabis consumption produce different onset times, intensities, and durations of effects.
Inhalation
Smoking and vaping typically produce faster effects, often within minutes.
Edibles
Edibles generally take longer to activate, sometimes up to two hours or more, but effects may last significantly longer and feel more intense.
Sublingual Products
Tinctures and sprays absorbed under the tongue may provide effects faster than edibles but slower than inhalation methods.
Topicals
Cannabis creams, lotions, and patches are commonly used for localized application and generally do not produce intoxicating effects.
SAFE DOSING
Consumers new to cannabis should start with low doses and increase gradually over time.
For THC products, beginners are generally encouraged to begin with low-dose servings and wait sufficient time before consuming additional amounts. Edible products, in particular, may take longer to produce noticeable effects.
Consumers should always review:
serving sizes;
THC potency;
product instructions;
warning labels.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
Illinois law requires cannabis-infused edible products to include nutritional labeling. Nutritional information may include serving size, calories, sugars, fats, carbohydrates, and other dietary information depending on the product type.
Customers should review individual product packaging for complete nutritional details.
SUPPLEMENTING CANNABIS USE WITH HEALTHY ACTIVITIES
Cannabis may be incorporated into broader wellness routines when used responsibly. Healthy lifestyle practices that may complement responsible cannabis use include:
regular exercise;
balanced nutrition;
hydration;
mindfulness practices;
healthy sleep routines;
social connection;
outdoor activity;
ongoing healthcare consultations.
Each individual’s relationship with cannabis is unique, and responsible consumption should prioritize overall health and wellbeing.
